About the Future Construction Leaders

Founded in 2014, Future Construction Leaders is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for young people to investigate the many private and public construction career opportunities available.

From kindergarten to 12th grade, we offer hands-on, free programs that expose students to various trades and the corresponding seasoned professionals who can guide and coach them. Our programs are not just about learning the trades; they’re confidence boosters that inspire teamwork and problem-solving. In addition, we offer financial assistance through trade and collegiate scholarships to those continuing their education.

Working with the San Diego County construction industry, we aim to dispel misconceptions about careers in construction and shatter stereotypes of who should work in the trades. We encourage students and their parents to revisit what a fulfilling career looks like.

Funding for the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), San Diego Chapter 21 Block Kids Building Program and college and trade scholarships are managed through the Future Construction Leaders. We rely on the NAWIC members as program leaders, volunteers, and advocates. Together, we have awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships and raised awareness among San Diego youth about the many careers in construction.

When the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Apprenticeship & Training Trust opened the state’s first and largest open-shop apprenticeship program in 2020, they welcomed Future Construction Leaders in to work with their skilled leadership and use the incredible facility for some of our programs. It was a game-changer! Due to their generosity, we have the space to introduce hundreds of students to the trades each year.
