Block Kids Building Program
The award-winning Block Kids Building Program introduces elementary school children to construction industry careers at a young age. Sponsored by local National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) chapters and supportive businesses, the competition is free for the students. By challenging the participants to use their imagination to construct a structure or project using interlocking blocks, they can get excited about their future. Local winners advance to the regional, and possibly national, competition. More information →
Camp NAWIC San Diego was created in 2008 as a community outreach program to encourage high-school-age girls to pursuing a career in the construction industry. The camp provides a unique week-long, hands-on approach to a construction career at no cost to participants. Many Camp NAWIC graduates return year after year to mentor younger campers and learn new skills. Twenty-five percent of all Camp NAWIC graduates pursue higher education or apprenticeship training in construction careers. Many are the first person to pursue post-secondary education in their families. More information →
Design Drafting Competition
The Design Drafting Competition challenges San Diego County high school students to address a design problem created by a licensed architect or engineer. Participants demonstrate creative designs, craftsmanship, and successful problem-solving skills through preparation of architectural drawings. The competition introduces students to the construction industry in a positive and challenging manner, while building confidence and fostering a sense of self-worth. Local and regional winners move on to national-level competition, where they receive additional monetary prizes. More information →
