We are proud to announce that the San Diego Regional Design Drafting Competition recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. In this competition, high school students are challenged to demonstrate creative designs, craftsmanship, and successful problem-solving skills through preparation of architectural drawings. This free program introduces students to the construction industry in a positive and challenging manner, while fostering a sense of self-worth and building confidence. Throughout the process, mentoring programs between students and educators are encouraged.
Local winners are recognized at the annual NAWIC San Diego awards dinner where they receive cash prizes. They may also go on to compete at the regional and national level, where they are eligible for additional monetary prizes.
What to Expect:
Participants address a “Design Problem” created by a licensed architect or engineer. Project drawings must include a minimum of a floor plan, exterior elevation and site plan, and placement of structure. Entries are evaluated for detail, accuracy, and originality of work.
In conjunction with the competition, students and teachers are invited to an educational and entertaining field trip which may include a construction job site visit, tour of a LEED Platinum building, or demonstration of innovative drafting software presented by industry professionals.
