Myth: Construction doesn’t pay well.

Annual salaries in San Diego County range from $112,281 - $153,978* for trades like carpentry, electrical, plumbers, painters, heavy equipment operators and construction managers.

*Total compensation includes Health & Welfare, Pension, Vacation & Holiday Pay, Training, and other payments.

Myth: Construction is an outdated job.

Innovative new technologies like robotics, sustainable building, and virtual reality (VR) are making construction safer, more efficient, environmentally friendly, and data-driven.

Myth: Construction is only for men.

There are more women in construction than ever before. Women in construction earn 95.5% of men's earnings, significantly reducing the gender pay gap compared to the US average where women earn 82.9% of men's earnings.

Myth: Construction is unskilled labor.

Although many construction jobs don’t require a college degree, construction requires highly specialized skills gained through apprenticeship or trade school to master the craft.
